Genevieve Allotey-Pappoe

Ethnomusicologist

Hello, I am an ethnomusicologist from Ghana and Nigeria based in the USA and pursuing a PhD in music. My research focuses on the production and global circulation of African music and music of the Black diaspora using technology and sound as critical categories. I am very passionate about music, culture, and the various productions of Black music genres in different contexts and spaces around the world. This blog/podcast explores various re-interpretations of Black music genres from HipHop in Spain and France to Dancehall in Sweden, Reggae in Japan, Afrobeat in Argentina and West African Mande drumming in Australia.

Black Music Nomad is a way to share my experiences as a researcher of Black music genres, highlight the trajectories of the music as it circulates globally, and giving voice to the untold stories of various musicians around the world.
